Bryan's Process

Sculpting Process
Before carving begins, there is a process of work that is done to be sure the sculpture is unique and has a high standard of quality.
  1. Have a vision of the final product.
  2. Sketch the vision onto paper.
  3. If necessary, a model is made of the sketch. The model is made from either clay or plastilene.
  4. If a model was produced, measurements are taken from the model to the piece being carved.
  5. The type of wood or stone is chosen.
  6. The material chosen for the sculpture is cut to its rough size and then the carving begins.
Restoration Process
  1. The first step of the process is to evaluate the extant of the damage.
  2. If there are broken or missing pieces repair or reproduce the pieces.
  3. For outdoor stone sculptures, sand and clean surface.
  4. If applicable remove chipped paint.
  5. If applicable add gesso to the surface.
  6. Smooth the surface.
  7. If applicable repaint, matching the original colors.
